Notes:

• A police front stabilizer bar will fit on a civilian vehicle without a problem. But a civilian front swaybar will not fit on a police vehicle unless the engine oil cooler system is removed.
  
• Lincoln towncars received updated upper control arms, upper balljoints, steering knuckles, and sealed wheel bearing assemblies in the 1991 model year. Crown vics and grand marquises recieved the these parts starting in the 1992 model year.
• Also, prior to the 1991/1992 front suspension redesign, the front stabilizer bar fastened to the lower control arm rather than directly to the knuckle.
• Fastening the swaybar link to the knuckle places the stabilizer bar attachment point farther out from the control arm pivot point. (So the vehicle roll is effectively decreased further per a given sway bar stiffness).
• Even though the front stabilizer bar hasn't been fastened directly to the lower control arm in over a dozen years, crown vics still had the hole drilled in the lower control arm for the endlink up until the 2002 model year.
• The later ball stud style endlinks do not have the mechanical strength that the previous links fastened directly to the lower control arm did.
• Remember that spring coil diameter is raised to the fourth power when computing rate. So a millimeter or two change in stabilizer bar diameter will have a very significant impact on the stiffness of the bar.
• Do NOT attempt to use the 98-02 front swaybar endlinks from napa (NCP 2651418). The torx 40 socket has been subsituted for a 5mm hex socket. The 5mm hex socket does not have sufficent mechanical strength to hold the stud stationary while the nut is fastened. The 95-97 front endlinks that napa sells (NCP 2652244) can be installed, but there is a durability issue with the rubber boot on these which is supposed to protects the ball & cup from moisture intrustion.
  
• If you have a 95-97 vehicle and want to upgrade to a 98-02 front swaybar, you will need the 98-02 stabilizer bar, appropriate sized frame bushings and also two 98-02 endlinks too. If for some reason, you need to use 98-02 endlinks with a 95-97 bar, the endlink mount holes in the bar could in theory be enlarged with a drill. But the bar is constructed of very hard metal and would not be fun to drill.
  
• Both quickor.com and addco.net used to manufacture larger aftermarket swaybars for the crown vic. The quickor front bar used the factory oem style endlinks and also has the proper bend in the front bar to clear the police oil cooler. The addco front swaybar uses different endlinks that fasten directly to the lower control arms and also does NOT have the bend in it to clear the police interceptor oil cooler. Additionally, there has been some concern that the addco front bar rubs the frame a little where it turns up from under the car. (Addco has released spacers to help alleviate this problem). Note that quickor no longer appears to be selling swaybars.
  
• The rubber bushings that retain the swaybar to the frame are wear items in a big way. Ford replacement bushings are a one peice unit that requires removal of both swaybar endlinks to install. Aftermarket ones, typically have a slit in them so that the endlinks do not have to be removed, but this also makes the aftermarket ones weaker to some extent. Some aftermarket suppliers such as energysuspension.com also offer stiffer polyurethane front bushings in diameters that are around the size of a crownvic bar.
• The front swaybar endlinks are constructed of a minature "lubed for life" ball stud in a polymer socket. Like other similarly constructed suspension components such as tie rods and ball joints, the endlinks will fail given enough use. The first sign of failure is typically that the joint is loose, but play in these joints is extremly difficult to detect and most always is overlooked. The next sign of failure is typically when the joint becomes noisy. Most drivers will notice a joint that makes a lot of noise, but the joint will likely have been loose for a long time before anyone notices noise coming from it.
• Interestingly, the moog K8953 front endlink is identical in construction to the ford F8AZ-5K484-AA service part. Both use the same castings, paint, color/design grease boots, same color/design retainers rings to retain the boot to the endlink, and neither has grease fittings. The moog comes in a box labelled "made in greece" and carries a MSRP of around $80. The ford unit does not include a box, but carries an MSRP of around $50. Neither the ford nor the moog front endlinks come with retainer nuts either. And these are "one use" fasteners that are always supposed to be replaced with new service assemblies after they are removed. And in the "rust belt" states, these nuts most always have to be cut off too.
• Make sure that the tierod sleeve clamps face downwards so that they do not contact the swaybar. Some frontend alignment shops have been known to leave these clamps facing upwards which will cause objectionable noises and steering binding if the front suspension is compressed a certain amount and the steering wheel is rotated within a certain portion of it's travel range. This can be dangerous and cause a collision sending your crownvic to the junkyard and you to the hospital emergency room.

Revision: Modified the front stabilizer bar shape to a "drop center" design and increased bar diameter from 28.5mm in the 1992/1993 model years to 29.5mm in the 1994 model year to offset loss in stiffness efficency.
