RE: Customer Satisfaction Program 06B39 - Certain 2006 Model Year Ford Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car Vehicles - Transmission Oil Cooler Bypass Valve Inspection

PURPOSE OF THIS SUPPLEMENT

This bulletin is being re-issued to change the program expiration date from August 31, 2006 to May 31, 2007. Our records indicate that there are still many affected units in dealer inventories that have not had this necessary service completed.

PROGRAM TERMS

This program will be in effect through May 31, 2007 regardless of distance traveled.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership, visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on May 15, 2006.

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

In some of the affected vehicles, the Transmission Oil Cooler (TOC) bypass valve may stick in the closed position which may inhibit transmission cooling and cause the transmission to overheat.

SERVICE ACTION

Dealers will inspect the TOC bypass valve using a special tool*. Vehicles that pass the inspection can be immediately released. All but a few of the TOC bypass valves will pass the inspection. If the valve does not pass the inspection using the special tool, the transmission oil cooler will be replaced and additional inspections will be performed to determine if further repairs are needed. See Attachment III for details

*NOTE:The special inspection tool was sent only to dealers with involved units. The special tool was sent to the attention of the Service Manager via DHL on May 12, 2006. Do not use any other tool to perform this inspection; other tools will damage the valve.

This inspection must be performed on affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. All in-stock vehicles must be inspected prior to delivery.
